NCAA Official ball signed by a few of our Goodpasture GREATS. Drew Maddux (‘94), a three-time All-State selection and Honorable Mention All-American, set thirteen basketball records in his senior year. He went on to play for Vanderbilt from 1995-1998, where he was an all-SEC guard. Also an outstanding coach, Maddux coached the CPA High School Boys basketball team for 15 seasons. He led the Lions to two Class AA state championships (2012 and 2013) and state runner-up (2021). Ron Mercer was twice named "Mr. Basketball" of Tennessee while at Goodpasture Christian School. He continued with a successful collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, where he received All-American and all-Southeastern Conference honors. After his collegiate career, Mercer played for several teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA); he ended his career with the New Jersey Nets in 2005. PJay Smith (’21) is “one of the best players and people that I’ve coached in my 15-year career,” according to (then) coach Adam Sonn. PJay’s GCS playing career culminated in District, Region, State Tournament MVP, and 2nd Team All-Midstate awards in his senior year. After two standout basketball seasons at Division II Lee University (15.8 pts/5.9 reb /3.8 assists), Smith will suit up for Furman University beginning with the 2023-24 season. Isaiah West (’23) scored his 1,000th point in the 2023-24 season and led the Cougars to their second state tournament championship. After a 3.5 year playing career at Goodpasture (cut short due to an injury his junior year), Isaiah ranks #8 in scoring (1,376 points), #7 in assists (338), and #10 in rebounds (529). Look for him in a black and gold uniform this Fall as he signed to play for the Vanderbilt Commodores.
